The Project is part of the Arch 606
studio work, the main tower of a humming birds' aviary.
This tower has a height of 105 ft
because the male birds are supposed to fly up to about 100 ft then dive down and make a sound to attract female birds.
My intention is to make people feel like walking in the forests while they are taking tours in the aviary (the tower). In that, I make the lateral load bracing structures look like tree random branches. And I use grasshopper and rhino to generate them.
Here below is the introduction video of the generation processes.
1. Separate the plan curve into different portions due to the form. And then each portion can be divide evenly and try to have the same modular of about 6 ft to fit the rest of my aviary design. At here I divide the half circle into 12 parts.
2. The basic unit of the idea is to generate random-length pipes connected randomly. In that case, each 6'-portion divided evenly to have 5 points. And I hope the first-layer-points can be risen up 3' +/- 1' in average. So I set up a domain from 2 to 4 and with the help of battery Random, I generate 5 random numbers from 2' to 4'. And the jitter battery can change the order of numbers randomly and connect them and make them to be pipes.
3. The second layer will have a risen height of 4' +/- 1' and the third has 5'+/- 1'. Following this order the density of structures will be less and less as approach the top.
4. This picture shows the batteries of the first layer of the two half-circle-parts.
5. The whole batteries of the design and some structure generation picture.
6. The final model has been modified in Rhino to be the shape I want for studio.
